An Update On My Condition Since The Bloodmobile Fall

This story starts with my attending church on 05/14/23 in Spring Hill FL. At church, they were having a blood drive. I noticed the big community blood services bloodmobile parked in front of the chapel. After church, I decided that since I was 71 years old and had never donated my blood, it was my turn to help a good cause.

I walked to and entered the bus. There were two other steps to go up; I got up the first step, then felt myself falling backward and tumbling down and wound up outside, landing hard on my left side. I broke two ribs and mangled my left leg. Bad, and could hardly walk. I spent the rest of 2023 going rehab, to the hospital like a revolving door. Every time I get released, my left leg does not hold me up, and I fall again. Rehabs say I have not enough rehab; one guy said I needed five more weeks of rehab. I hit the ground hard at around 300 pounds. My left hip was replaced in 2012.

My body was telling me something in that leg/hip was wrong. In November 2023, I was released from yet another rehab. I wanted to visit the Thai church in Bradenton and drive to Bradenton. At about that time, I needed to take a leak and stopped at a McDonald’s to use their bathroom. I felt good finally leaving the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) I was in and looking forward to seeing old friends. I parked at McDonald’s and got out of my car. On my second step, that left leg didn’t even feel like it was there, dumped me in the parking lot, landing again on my left side, scraping my right arm. Paramedics came. Two guys helped me up when they arrived, and I was sitting in my car. They said my vitals were normal but suggested taking me to the ER, which I had been to 5 times already.

So, from there, I abandoned my planned visit to a Thai Church, not wanting to fall again. I’m 6.2 and have lost some weight. So I drove back to Brooksville—about 60 miles. I’m a former used car dealer and have driven dealer’s cars to auction, then brought another back. I love to drive, and I could do a Miami run and be back in town before dark. So, getting to Oak Hill Hospital. for the 4th time, I called and requested someone come out with a wheelchair since there was no way I was going to change it. They admitted me and did a bunch of Xrays. I was there for two days, then was medically transported to the last rehab (SNF), which is where I am now.

So I managed to get a visit scheduled to a neurologist and went to see him last week. He agrees with me that something is indeed wrong. He said the fall could have knocked something loose. I asked if I had any pain in my spine that I didn’t have. If I remember correctly, the nerves for the lower body run down the spine. So he ordered an MRI of my spine and another test. My next follow-up appointment is in March. I hope he can fix me. I can’t spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair because of the bloodmobile fall! 😥

But there is some good news for me anyway. I’ve lost 80 Pounds since last May when I had this life-altering lousy experience. President Ronald Reagan once said while chopping wood at the White House, “If you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything, and you know you can’t have everything.” Can anyone tell me the meaning of the last of his saying? It’s quite simple; who can tell me what it means? Comment below.

Depending on whether it was bad or good, my girlfriend of three years dumped me like a rock. I miss chatting with her, but she said I’m moving on, and I have not heard from her since my fall. I guess I’m available. I need one good woman to share our golden years. And I’m planning to make it to 100 minimum. Besides this current situation, all my body’s innards work as they should. And I do not Drink or Smoke or have Diabetes or do any Drugs of any kind. Wanna chat? Download the Aisian Line Messenger and install it on your smartphone.
