I’m well versed in WordPress and have quite a few tricks up my sleeve to mod, tweak, and increase WordPress performance. This site runs WHM and cPanel dedicated VPS server ($60.M) Don’t pay a lot more for so-called ‘managed’ web hosting which is commonly known to be poorly managed, and not well updated. I strongly recommend WHM and its companion cPanel. I like to refer to this combo as the Rolls Royce of Web Servers. If you’re not pleased with your current web host, I recommend and use Vultr Holdings for this website hosting. I can set you up an instance that’s better and faster than most hosts, and less expensive, then migrate your data to its new home.
Host your own videos or audio in the cloud. If you have controversial or videos that would get your account suspended on YouTube host them on your own cloud instance. I’ve been doing this for several years using a numbered domain as the video source. It’s really quite easy to set up. Register a domain for your video hosting. Point it to a CloudFlare account using their caching to serve most of the bandwidth from their CDN network. Upload the video file to the cloud, and paste the URL into your video script. Works like a charm . The whole idea is using CF to cache the video file itself, taking a good 70-80% of the load off your hosting server. This video has had 440k views.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is also imperative to be found online. Knowing how to set up your static page’s meta title and description helps to gain the best position. The same goes for blog posts and store items. I highly recommend the Yoast SEO plugin if you are using WordPress. It has both readability and SEO analysis tools built-in. Nothing beats proper SEO keyword research.
If you’re running a political WordPress website reporting from the right side of politics, you probably already know that big tech is against Conservatives, Republicans, and especially Trump Supporters. I know that firsthand since plugging for Donald Trump ever since his 2016 election campaign. One solution has to do with how your article’s outbound links are presented to search engines.
The worldwide web was built on links. Links connected websites together. However, WordPress adds rel=”NoOpener” and “NoReferrer” metadata to all outbound links that open in new windows or tabs. The “NoOpener” meta tag is good, it prevents a man-in-the-middle attack when transitioning from site-a to site-b. But the “NoReferrer” link relationship does just what it says, strip out the website the link comes from. I have found my SEO score getting much better after forcing WordPress to send the referrer with all external link clicks. We want to share the love between sites we link to 🙂 This plugin is working well for me removing the NoReferrer meta tag. When blogging an article in WordPress or any other CMS be sure to open all external links in a new window or browser tab. This prevents losing your site visitor! When they close that second window or switch tabs your article is right where you want it! Internal links should open in the same tab or window.
Your website’s speed is the next most important factor after SEO. Search engines judge your site by its speed, the faster the better. I highly recommend using a FREE CloudFlare account to manage your website’s Domain Name System (DNS ) functions. After registering your CloudFlare account it will instruct you to change your domains name servers to point to Cloudflare. It will take up to 24 hours for the domain to propagate to its new host. Setup can be challenging because of the multitude of features and optimization options.
This world-class DNS management service offers free SSL certificates, blocks bad bots by IP country or ASN number. And the best part is their content caching takes a good percentage of server load off of your origin. CloudFlare’s Automatic Platform Optimization (APO ) will send your WordPress site into orbit. This package is part of the Pro account that costs $20 and is a bargain. The pro plan also includes their Web Application Firewall (WAF ) which has specific options to protect popular web applications like WordPress, for example. I’m well versed with CloudFlare and can set it all up.
